UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Scholarship (Undergraduate)

The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Scholarship (Undergraduate) is one of four prestigious Hart Scholarships presented at Trainee Day, and is awarded to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and the same enthusiasm for science that was evident in Michael. The recipient, selected each year by the IIDR Executive Committee, receives a monetary award and is invited to present a talk on their research at Trainee Day. Find out more about Michael here.

Fisher Scientific Undergraduate Poster Award

The Fisher Scientific Undergraduate Poster Award, valued at $500, is presented to the undergraduate student who receives the best score on their poster presentation at this year’s Trainee Day. Students wishing to present a poster must send a project abstract to iidr@mcmaster.ca AND register online before Monday, September 9th, 2019 at 11:59pm. Abstracts will receive a judging mark this year based on adherence to the guidelines listed on the Talks & Posters page.

MASTERS STUDENTS 

The Michael Kiley Scholarship in Antibiotic Resistance

The Michael Kiley Scholarship in Antibiotic Resistance was established in 2017 through the family and friends of the late Michael Kiley – an Ontario man who lost his battle to a drug-resistant superbug in 2011. This year, the Kiley Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student (either Masters or PhD) associated with the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research who has made a significant contribution to antibiotic infection research. The selected recipient will receive a monetary award and will be invited to present their research at Trainee Day. Learn more about Michael Kiley here.

The Mildred Gulliver Graduate Scholarship in Infectious Disease Research

Established in 2009 by the estate of Mildred Katleen Hodgson, the Mildred Gulliver Graduate Scholarship is awarded to one IIDR graduate student (either Masters or PhD) in recognition of their significant contribution to anti-infective research. The student will receive a monetary scholarship and is selected from the group of trainees presenting talks at this year’s event.

This year,  6 IIDR trainees (3 MSc and 3 PhD) are chosen to give oral presentations based on the highest-scored application within the three categories outlined on the Talks & Posters page.

IIDR Awards of Excellence

The IIDR will present three Awards of Excellence – valued at $500 each – to the postdoctoral fellow,  PhD student, and Master’s student receiving the best overall score on their poster presentation at this year’s Trainee Day. Students wishing to present a poster must send a project abstract to iidr@mcmaster.ca AND register online before Monday, September 9th, 2019 at 11:59pm. POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWS

The Gerard Wright Postdoctoral Award in Infection Research

This recently established award is presented to an IIDR Postdoctoral or MD Fellow whose research, published or unpublished, has made a significant contribution to the field of infectious disease research over the past year. The successful candidate, selected by the IIDR Executive Committee, receives a monetary award and is invited to present their research at this year’s IIDR Trainee Research Day.

The Mildred Gulliver Postdoctoral Scholarship in Infectious Disease Research

Established in 2009 by the estate of Mildred Katleen Hodgson, the Mildred Gulliver Postdoctoral Scholarship is awarded to one PDF affiliated with the IIDR. Recipients are recognized for their significant contribution to anti-infective research and receive a monetary scholarship. The postdoctoral fellow award is selected beforehand by the IIDR Executive Committee, and invited to present a talk on their research at this year’s Trainee Day.

The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Scholarship (Staff)

The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Staff Award is awarded to a technical staff member who has made outstanding contributions in their role during the past year and who has achieved excellence in demonstrating the IIDR’s core competencies and values. The award is presented to a staff member during the IIDR’s annual Trainee Day based on nominations from colleagues. To nominate someone, please send a one-page letter to iidr@mcmaster.ca stating how your nominee meets the above criteria.
